the sound of music

i haven't blogged in a few days.  Haven't really been in the blogging mood until today.  but, since i am back, hear are a few of my favourite artists that I love to listen to.  this is just a handful and it doesn't include my list of artists from my "oldies" collection. music is a big part of my life.

I was born into a musical family.  my grandmother is a piano player.  although she cannot read music and doesn't play classical, she can play anything she hears.  She has been playing since she was 3 and has been playing lead pianist/vocalist for choirs since the age 5.  my 2 aunts sing, along with my mother.  & when I say sing.. I really mean SAAANG.  my uncle plays drums, bass guitar and can sing as well.  My granddaddy was once in a gospel group.  my mom, grandma, 2 aunts, and cousin were also in a gospel group together for awhile back in the 80s.  I used to play the piano, but I sing (not in front of people though, which is kind of unfortunate) and my sister plays the acoustic guitar.  I think she is taking the same route as my grandmother as far as playing what she hears.

as far as what's playing on my iPod, it's pretty much anything and everything.  i love almost every genre.  i grew up listening to contemporary christian (and still do), but as i got older i expanded to classical, r&b, hip-hop, christian rap, folk and what not.  a few years ago, country music was all i listened too.  not today.  unless it's Rascal Flats or Keith Urban, then i'm okay with that--not that there's anything wrong with country music.  but i'm pretty much open to anything.  i'll even listen to a little k-pop, which is my sisters current (maybe forever) obsession.

music is important to me and millions of others around the world.  it inspires.  it relieves.  it helps when you are sad, mad, and even happy.  it brings people together. it's a way of expression.  it's a language.

A German philosopher once said, "Without music, life would be a mistake."  boy was he right.  i can't imagine my life without it.

So, what are you listening to?
